We love a brand that shares our focus on sustainability, care in production and fashion that lasts. Carcel is exactly that kind of brand — and we are happy to welcome them for a three day pop-up shop at Nørgaard paa Strøget.
Carcel made quite a splash at Copenhagen Fashion Week SS17 in August with their way of re-thinking the typical fashion brand set-up: Carcel creates luxurious alpaca knitwear knitted by female prisoners in Cusco, Peru.
Carcel exchanges wasted time behind bars with a fair wage, lasting skills and the possibility of saving up money for a better future. You’ll get high quality Danish design knitwear in one of the world’s best and most sustainable materials, baby alpaca wool, and, more importantly, the chance to support women in a part of the world with the highest rate of poverty related crime.
No Seasons. No collections. No compromises.
The women behind Carcel, social entrepreneur Veronica d’Souza and Louise Van Hauen, who has a past with great fashion houses such as Louis Vuitton and Dirk Bikkembergs, have rejected the concept of seasons and collections. Instead they design and produce styles that transcend the normal fashion cycle, focusing on classic, Danish design virtues such as function, detail and lasting quality.
We very much like the idea behind Carcel. And we are looking very much forward to welcoming the brand at Nørgaard paa Strøget.
